How to Make Vintage Inspired Books

I love decor catalogs and used to get so many for inspiration, Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, Sarina & Lilly & so many more. Now that Pinterest has arrived 8 years ago, I don't feel the need for catalogs anymore. Speaking of Pinterest, I was looking for French inspired antique doors one day on Pinterest. When I came across the most beautiful antique doors that are on the Eloquence web site. I ordered their catalog and WOW!! It is filled with the most amazing French Country inspiration. I kept seeing these books in their furniture photos. I was INSPIRED to try and make some of my own.

NOTE: DO THIS DIY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Summer Home Tour 2019

I'm excited to be sharing some areas of our home for Summer. Thank you, Kelly from The Tattered Pew for hosting this Summer Home Tour blog hop. If you're visiting from Lindsay at Aratari at Home, welcome! Glad you've stopped by to visit, hope you'll find some inspiration in keeping things simple around the home. With the kids on Summer break, I wanted our home to be comfortable and have a carefree feeling. I didn't spend a lot of time redecorating anything. Maybe an hour to freshen things up!

I was inspired by a vintage hankie that I had hanging on a cutting board in our kitchen. You will see it on our open shelves in the kitchen nook. It's white with blue and yellow flowers. Since I already had some yellow going on in our home from Spring, you can see it HERE and I always have blues in our home. I decided it would be easy to freshen things up with blue & yellow.

Entrance

When you come in our front door I have a summery lemon wreath that I made from Afloral hung up for that touch of yellow when you come in. I love color but try to use it sparingly. Years ago I would get hung up on adding my color scheme to every little inch of our home that it felt like overkill at the end. My style has changed over the years and I find it to be a more restful space with the less is more approach.

Patriotic Picnic - Memorial Day

Honestly, how often do we treat ourselves to an outdoor picnic in this day in age?  I always dream about sitting in the woods surrounded by trees, flowers, ferns & even little bunnies running by while enjoying some treats from home. A cool breeze blowing through the leaves, while the sun peaks through the clouds and casts those beautiful golden rays over us.

With all that dreaming that I've done, in reality I'd never bring this much stuff to a country side picnic. I had the pleasure of working with Factory Direct Craft for a Memorial Day themed picnic. Our older boys will be out of school for the Summer come next week and I thought It'll be fun to kick off our Summer break & Memorial Day weekend with a patriotic picnic in our very own backyard. The kids always have so much fun when we bring out the champagne glasses and make things feel special.

DIY Herb Painted Doormat

Who knew you could paint your own doormat? I sure never thought of that, so when Terri at Decorate & More With Tip asked me to join her painted door mat challenge I was excited to join! I love trying new things and this was right up my alley! There are 10 other bloggers joining this challenge that you can check out at the bottom of this post! So many different designs, there's definitely one to fit your style, or inspire your own design!

I have enough doormats, but I've been wanting one to go in front of our little patio bench. Keeping with "all thing plants" right now. I thought it would be fun to try a herb botanical design. It's hard to get a lot of detail in the painting on the mat, so it didn't really turn out exactly how I had envisioned. I still like it though!

Crib Turned Patio Plant Wall Hanger

Every year when Spring arrives, I want to get outside and play in the yard! Our back patio has slowly been coming together as I add new décor and plants when I find good deals. We've been fortunate enough this year with cooler weather here in Florida, so we're enjoying sitting out back a little more. I'm hoping that doesn't mean we will be having an extremely hot summer!

FB Marketplace is a great place to look for budget friendly décor for outside. I've actually picked up some things for free and this vintage crib is one of them! You can get 5 pieces of décor out of one crib! I hung the mattress spring on the wall inside our home and clipped family pictures to it. The side rails were perfect for a Plant Wall Hanging and the end rails will be used in our future garden as trellises.

Spring Styled Open Kitchen Shelving

If you feel like you're wanting a little change in your décor this time of year, I feel the same way! I like to choose small areas of our home to change out & the open shelving nook in our kitchen was ready for a change! Hard to believe I hadn't switched out the shelving décor in over a year! I went a little bolder this year with color by adding in some yellow. I knew I wanted that mint green again, so I gathered up my jadeite plates, kitchen scale and my favorite of all, the vintage wire egg baskets! I got those a couple of years ago at an antique fair.

Spring Decor Dried Flower Mantel

I have been on a dried flower kick for months now! Fresh flowers are always a splurge purchase for me so if I can save them after they have lived their beautiful vibrant life, that makes me happy.
We recently celebrated my grandmothers 90th. Birthday and I made several floral arrangements for the party. As the Roses started to droop, I pulled them out and hung them upside down to dry. The long Stock flowers were just laid on the blue cabinet and dried. Most of the petals fell off of the Stock flowers but I saved those too! The Eucalyptus is now crispy and droopy but I still see beauty in them. Don't you? The lighter dusty green they once were is now a few shades darker.

Winter Love Valentines Tablescape

I'm excited to be joining some blogger friends today in a Valentine Tablescape blog hop! Thank you, Chloe at Celebrate and Decorate for inviting me! I already had a Winter table setting already in the works, so I just added onto that. You can find the details on the Winter Centerpiece HERE! I like creating décor that can work for multiple purposes. Just add in color, shapes, textures, etc. & you now have a different look!

I love pink & I love blue, so this year I mixed the two together and it turned out soft and elegant but not over the top. I try not to buy seasonal décor anymore because it's just not what my heart likes. I like antiques, vintage, things that have history & a story behind them. Like the blue antique plates that can be used for many occasions, not just Valentines.

Easy 30 Minute Valentines Decor

Valentines Day gives me a reason to be a little creative after the holidays and change up areas around the house for fun. I always do a little bit of Valentines décor in small areas of our home. I find it to be less stressful and fun if you keep it simple and just do one to two small areas in the home. This Wall in our living room is one area I change up every couple of months or sooner. I'm actually ready for a BIG change on this wall! I'm thinking of adding board and batten and all new décor! I love having the lights and doors but the doors were just temporary to fill the space a year ago! 🤣  I'd like to keep the lights but do something new with everything else!

Anyways....onto this years Valentines décor! It's all very simple and took about 30 minutes to create!

Farmhouse Style Winter Tablescape

Lucky for us Floridians its been cold here and I've been adding some Winter touches around the house to add some warm and cozy vibes. I always like to add natural elements for warmth like birch logs, wicker baskets, copper & cotton. One easy way to add that cozy winter vibe is setting a table centerpiece. Not a whole tablescape but a little something on the table. The idea for this one is to be able to transition into a Valentines tablescape and Spring centerpiece. So stay tuned on how to do that from this Winter table centerpiece!

Lamp Turned Large Chunky Candle Holder

This is the year of use all the junk in my junk pile or get rid of it! I've had several "things" sitting around for when I feel inspired to get the project to done. I'm trying to not take on any new "things" until that junk pile gets a little smaller. I've actually donated a lot before and after Christmas but this lamp just kept saying NO, don't get rid of me! I can be great! I had planned on painting it as a lamp but we just don't have a use for it as a lamp.

The shape is what drew me in at a Garage sale for $3, three years ago. So I had an idea for it! Candleholder! Large chunky candleholders can be a bit pricey so I could never purchase one for $3 and the deconstruction began!

How to Make Valentines Rag Wreath

Happy 2019 friends! Hope everyone had a great holiday and New Year! Once the weekend before Christmas came I signed off of all social media and just enjoyed the time off with my family! Now it's the new year and I'm ready to start sharing everything Home & DIY again! With Valentines Day around the corner I thought it would be fun to use up some of my scrap fabric and lace that I have for a rag wreath! I'm trying to keep the feel of our home Wintery and adding a little pink. This will transition into Spring décor very easily too!

I like subtle Valentines décor and I usually just do one spot in my house like our buffet table or this cute little area by our entrance front door. I don't think I've ever really found Valentines décor in the store that I've liked so I always make something. This wreath cost a $1 to make for the metal wreath ring from the Dollar Tree!

Cardamom Cinnamon Coconut Snowflake Cookies

Hard to believe Christmas is less than a week away! I know there's nothing like baking in the kitchen to bring on that holiday cheer! I don't really bake all year and come Christmas, I'm in the kitchen  making up for the whole the year! 🤣 So when my friend Kelly at The Tattered Pew asked me to join her Christmas Cookie Blog Hop, I was excited to join! And if you're here from Kelly's blog, welcome! I hope you'll go visit Jordan at House Becomes Home Interiors to continue on with four other yummy cookie recipes!

I'm sharing a recipe I found scrolling through Instagram one day and the most beautiful video popped up from Bakingthegoods.com. Cardamom Coconut Snowflake Cookies. After making the first batch I wanted something a little softer in taste so I changed one ingredient. Swapping the Cardamom in the icing for Cinnamon.

How to Make a Faux Gingerbread Cookie Wreath

Living on a budget really helps the mind get creative. I see things laying around that are free and always think, "what can I make out of that!" I was seeing a lot of gingerbread Christmas décor last year but this year, wow! It's inspired me and since I'm not big on baking, not that I can't It's not what I enjoy most. The mess and seeing all that hard work gone in about an hour 🤣 I would rather spend my time elsewhere in the home. Then it dawned on me that the cardboard boxes that keep arriving for Christmas have that gingerbread brown color!

All of my hard work won't get eaten & I can enjoy it again next year!

Christmas Home Tour Blog Hop: A Vinatge Christmas

I can't believe Christmas is actually here again! It's definitely my favorite holiday, like most of you I'm sure!  It's always so much fun to be joining my blogger friends this time of year! Everyone always shares such great inspiration and traditions.
Welcome to our home for Christmas! I'll be sharing our living room, kitchen & master bedroom. My goal this year was to keep it simple and classic. Trying to let the greenery of Christmas be the showcase with vintage touches. Candles, chippy windows, classic ribbon and subtle touches of red.

5 Tips for Creating a Christmas Vignette

If you're short on Christmas décor don't fret! I'm sharing some tips on how to create beautiful vignettes around your home with stuff you may already have or that you can find for free! You would be surprised with what you can pull together from your kitchen! Herbs, tea cups, backing pans, serving dishes, etc! One great free option is nature! Pinecones and evergreens are in most of our yards.

1. Use Faux Plants from other Seasons
One way I like to use what I have on hand, is flowers and faux foliage from other seasons. Mixing in some flowers from past season like Fall or Spring. Magnolias are great during Christmas and I used some of my soft pink Ranunculus and pale green Dusty Miller to make my winter garland fuller here.

How to Make Vinatge Christmas Stockings

I recently went searching for vintage Christmas stockings and couldn't find any at an affordable price! I found these Linen stockings on Amazon at a great price, four for $13.99!! That's about $3.50 each! The cuff is a little shinny but I was surprised by the fabric on the underside. It's a lighter linen color and by folding the cuff up it lengthened the stockings like the long vintage stockings! When I purchased these my intent was to cover the cuff with lace or pretty detailed fabric.

Classic Christmas Decor In The Bedroom

I've never done Christmas décor in the bedroom before but this year I wanted to create a simple and classic Christmas scene in our bedroom! A restful look to end the long days with, lay down and have the glow of the tree at night next to us. I knew I would find the perfect faux garland and wreath from Afloral! I love holiday berries and their Juniper Garland with the frosted like blueberries stole my heart. ❤ I'm sure most of you know blue is my favorite color and I use it throughout our entire home!
