Kitchen Table for my Boy's

I had picked up a small kitchen table for FREE off of http://www.freecycle.org/ a while back....like 6 months....lol...my poor husband. I am soooo one of those mothers that has projects that take FOREVER.

This table is just Perfect for us though. It has 2 drop down leaves on either end so when we're not using it, it doesn't take up to much space in the kitchen.

After much sanding...don't know what I would do without my palm sander

Some white semi gloss paint on the base & Minwax "Red Mahogany" on the top it now looks like this!!!That's my "made over" bulletin board above it. It covers up the electric panel. I'll post that make over NEXT (=

Kitchen Table for my Boy's

Buffet Table

My husband bought a new flat screen T.V. about two months ago witch didn't fit in our entertainment unit. SO....the hunt for a new T.V. stand STARTED! I was on craigs list about 5 times a day. I had a style in mind, but it had to be high enough so the boys wouldn't be able to tough the t.v., look good, & be easy on the wallet. I am in LOVE with the "House of Turquoise" blog http://www.houseofturquoise.com/.

I figured I would find a piece of furniture that I would end up re-furbishing BUT.... When I came across this antique buffet table posted on craigs list at a thrift store about 30 min. away from me I was so EXCITED! It was the color I wanted, style I was looking for, & high enough that the t.v. would not be touched. This HUNT had been going on for about 3 wks. It was posted for $75!!!!

I bought it for $60!!!!
NOW...the top had marble laminate tiles & knew they could be removed but I wasn't sure of the surface that was going to be revealed. I was so eager to get started on removing the tiles that I forgot to take a picture of it before..oops

But this is what the tiles kind of looked like...it looked cheap! About 12 of them 10" * 10" & it was a very sticky surface after that.

I was going to just build a new top for it...I'm liking the planked tops right now.... like this one

But.... I started chipping away at the top

Then lots & lots of sanding!!

I did put some nicks in it...ooopsy! But it had PLANKS =)

It sanded down BEAUTIFULLY!

Gave it a good coat of Wood Conditioning

And I LOVE IT!!!!!

I have to do something about the wires....

Now on to painting the living room & achieving the cozy feel I'm going for. Here are some inspiration photos with the look I'm liking =) From "House of Turquoise"

Buffet Table

Hanging Fruit Basket Conversion

If you don't know by now, I LOVE plants! There's just something about them that makes a place feel homey & peaceful.

I have had this fruit basket hanging in my kitchen hallway for a while now & it's always getting bumped into by myself & husband...he's so glad it's out of the way now:-) I knew the minute I saw it (it was given to me) I wanted to put plants in it but I thought I would give it a shot as our fruit holder. Unless I were to put a hook in the ceiling & hang it in some strange place in our kitchen it wasn't working!! So it is now hanging in our tree out back & I love it! I think I'm wishing I would have spray painted it black first though.

Once all the plants fill in it will look a lot better.

Here is how it was done: not hard at all!

The "Dollar Tree" has the coconut liners for a $1 a piece, I used 2 for this project. One fit in the bottom tier & I used 1 more for the middle & top tier. You will just have to cut & piece it together. To get the large one on the bottom to fit tightly I cut little triangles out of it around the top 3-4 times.

Some of these plants are annuals so when they die off I will spay paint it black. I love Ferns, supper easy to care for & beautiful all year long! I can't wait for this one to fill out.

Notice "Raja" my bangle cat sitting on the neighbors chair...he is always in the background of all our photos..LOL
