Patriotic Picnic - Memorial Day

Honestly, how often do we treat ourselves to an outdoor picnic in this day in age?  I always dream about sitting in the woods surrounded by trees, flowers, ferns & even little bunnies running by while enjoying some treats from home. A cool breeze blowing through the leaves, while the sun peaks through the clouds and casts those beautiful golden rays over us. 

With all that dreaming that I've done, in reality I'd never bring this much stuff to a country side picnic. I had the pleasure of working with Factory Direct Craft for a Memorial Day themed picnic. Our older boys will be out of school for the Summer come next week and I thought It'll be fun to kick off our Summer break & Memorial Day weekend with a patriotic picnic in our very own backyard. The kids always have so much fun when we bring out the champagne glasses and make things feel special.

Red White & Blue Tablescape Blog Hop

I'm so excited to be joining 20 other talented bloggers for this Red White & Blue Tablescape Blog Hop! When Chloe at Celebrate and Decorate asked me to join I was thrilled! I had already put together a Vintage Chic 4th Tablescape a couple weeks back and I had some other ideas already spinning in my head as I was setting that one for another one! haha, funny how that works, right?

 When I think about what the 4th of July means to me, I think history! The signing of the Declaration of Independence, our freedom & land of our own!  I had these elements in my mind when I was playing with ideas. I wanted to set the table with a vintage/history feeling but still elegant.

Red White & Blue Tablescape Blog Hop

4th of July Decor: Vintage Chic Style

I don't typically decorate for the 4th of July but I've been feeling a little uninspired and I know if I have a "reason" to get inspired or change something up for the creative ideas to start flowing. For smaller holidays I'll do just smaller areas in our home like the dining room I went around the house and looked for blue & white items. Just by adding some American flags and blue décor that was enough to get the 4th of July feel.

Faux white peonies, a blue vintage scale, white dishes with a touch of red and blue mason jars. I like mixing vintage pieces in with the 4th décor by adding brass candle sticks and old crib spindles.

4th of July Decor: Vintage Chic Style

Dollar Tree 4th of July Decor

I have been on a paper crafting kick lately so when I spotted these cupcake wrappers and picks at the Dollar Tree I knew I would use them for crafting and not backing!

 

 

I still need to whitewash the mirror that goes with this dresser. It looks so awful in photos:(

 

 

 

 

I made the coffee filter wreath to go with it all to help keep it toned down. The best part is all the 4th of July stuff on the wreath is temporary so I can use it year round! Love, Love! 

 

I cut the wrappers into squares and than cut slits into the middle without going all the way to the middle. You will than fold in one corner at a time into the middle until you create a pinwheel.  

 

 

Put a pin in the middle to hold it all together and I reused the picks I cut off of the flag picks to pin into the wreath with stick tack. Worked like a charm, I can just pull them out when the 4th of July is over.

 

 



 

 

I even cut down the liners and added them to doilies for another banner.  

 

 

 

Love the blue mason jar mugs from Target...scored those for a $1.48 each:)



Reused the little pieces of wrappers to go around a painted can.

I even used up the little pieces triangle from cutting the flag picks down for more mini pinwheels. I don't think I put anything into the trash on this one.

 

If you accordion fold the liners and glue two of them together you'll get that cute flower shaped paper wheel. 

 

 

Crazy how many different things I was able to make out of half a package of cupcake wrappers and picks for $1!!

Dollar Tree 4th of July Decor

DIY 4th of July Banner { Tutorial }

I started this 4th of July banner a couple weeks back with the kids and I finished it up yesterday for a photo shoot. I thought it would make for a cute background.

I have a pile of NOT so pretty scrapbook paper that I flipped over and used the white side. It's a nice thick paper. I cut them into triangles with craft scissors.

I used old pajama pants for the fabric, doilies from old job, and I had some burlap on hand.

I placed the doily on top of the fabric and cut it slightly larger than the doily.

I then pulled at the end of the fabric to fray the ends.

Mod Podge the pieces to the triangles.

Punch a hole in the middle and in the corners.

I printed out HAPPY 4TH onto white card stock in MS word at 200. Font: Rosewood Regular

I than just Mod Podge the "black" areas and sprinkled blue Martha Stewart glitter on them.

After the letters had dried I cut them out leaving about a 1/8th boarder all around the letter.

Punch a hole in the top of your letters and loop about a 8"-10" piece of jute rope through the hole in the letter and the hole in the triangles.

Tie a knot in the back side so it doesn't pull through.

Tie a bow and use some more jute rope to hold them all together.

DONE! I used stuff that I already had, so this craft didn't really cost me anything.

Does anyone else save unwanted clothes for fabric use??
